How do I care for my stockings?
Tips from our experts on how to care for your hosiery:

Putting your stockings on

We strongly recommend you wear cotton gloves when putting on your delicate sheer hosiery. The gloves will help to avoid snags and ladders from your fingernails.

Washing

Always use a hosiery bag in the washing machine. The washing bag will prevent your hosiery from becoming tangled in the wash which can lead to snags and unwanted stretching. Other lingerie will also benefit from being washed in a care bag but remember, never put your hosiery in a washing bag with a bra or garter belt as the hooks can snag the hosiery. We recommend a maximum of three pairs in a washing bag at a time.

See also our glossary of terms below for an explanation of the quality features of Omero that will extend the life of your hosiery. For example, Double-covered Lycra™ and 3D Lycra™ not only add divine softness, but also adds strength, durability and elasticity.

Can you explain some of the special words used on the website?
Here is a glossary of some of the words we use.

Collant
The Italian word for hosiery.

Denier
The terminology used to describe the weight of the yarn. The lower the denier the more sheer the appearance of the hosiery. Less than 10 denier is ultra-sheer, 10 to 20 denier is sheer, 25 – 40 denier is semi-opaque while over 40 denier is opaque in appearance. (Technically speaking, 10 denier means that 9,000 metres of yarn will weigh 10 grams.)

Double-covered Lycra®
Strong, soft & high quality. Lycra® yarn is used as the core for all horizontal rows (i.e. every other row). Two layers of nylon thread are wound round the Lycra® core in alternate directions. (Single covered only has one layer of nylon). Nylon yarn frequently wound more tightly than on single covered, which also makes the product stronger. Double covered Lycra® products are generally softer than single covered Lycra® as a better quality of nylon yarn, such as Meryl® is used to cover the Lycra®.

Fashion styles
Styles that are from an annual collection, that are only available throughout the specific year of manufacture.

Hosiery
General term for undergarments for the feet and legs that includes stockings, pantyhose, stay-ups and knee-hi.

Laundry care bag
A small, zipped, mesh bag used to protect underwear and hosiery during cleaning in a domestic washing machine.

Lycra® 3D
The best possible strength, stretch and recovery giving 'second skin' fit. Uniform in appearance and generally very soft. Lycra® is used in every knitting row, therefore every thread (both horizontal and vertical) has a Lycra® core (which can be single or double covered), giving stronger and better stretch and recovery characteristics. Due to all threads being identical in composition the appearance is more even. 3D products are generally softer to the touch as better quality nylon yarn is used to cover the Lycra®.

Meryl®
Nylon fibre noted for its softness.

Microfibre
The term microfibre is used to describe a nylon yarn that consist of a multitude of very fine filaments twisted to make a single yarn. The result is luxuriously soft to the touch with tremendous stretch and recovery properties.
